Storries Beach Cottage ...

The little blue cottage is nicely situated nearby several local beaches in this upper part of the Georgia Strait that are fun for young children who love building sand castles and splashing in the waves. Beachside play on Storries Beach is best during low tide, when the sand is exposed and the tidal pools are warmed up by the sun.

Miracle Beach, one of Vancouver Island’s most popular Provincial Parks is just 10 minutes south. Day-use facilities include the Visitor Centre and Nature House with saltwater aquariums, nature displays and interpretive programs at the open-air amphitheatre, well-suited for families. Oyster River Nature Trail is an easy walk that winds along the river and is home to herons, eagles and ducks.

The 1000 square foot cottage has a large yard that fronts onto the old inland highway. There is just one row of houses between the cottage and the ocean, so it does offer a good view of the mainland coastal mountains and Middlenatch Island. The backyard offers more privacy and shade, with a BBQ and outdoor seating and table.

The clean, cozy interior is well laid out, with 2 bedrooms, one bathroom, a spacious kitchen with small dining table for 4, and a living room with TV, couches and chair. The smaller bedroom with 2 twin beds is located off of the kitchen, and the master bedroom with Queen bed is beside the living room. It is nicely organized for families with small children who collapse early into bed after a full day of sunshine and ocean air while the parents relax in the living room, or in the large hot tub out the back door.

The spacious kitchen is fully equipped with ample storage space for groceries, and lots of countertops for meal preparation. There are many resterants nearby if you prefer to take a holiday from cooking!

For a break from the sandy beaches, the Oyster River area offers a variety of family activities including mini-golf, go-cart rentals, horseback riding, country markets, golf courses, and the Saratoga Speedway. It is only 20 minutes to the base of Mount Washington for summertime mountain biking, alpine hiking and scenic chair rides. Or, enjoy skiing and snowboarding some coastal powder in the winter months.
